Project Design - Promotional Teaser

A simple storyboard about my promotional teaser.

This video created with the background sound and sound effect is to show although there people don't know the meaning of the Calligraphy text, but from listening the sound effect, they will realize and the text spelling is stated as they can learn at the same time. The smooth, soft and relaxing music is to let people feel more comfortable and relax because this is the spirit of Chinese Calligraphy.

Chinese Character is transform by hieroglyphs. At ancient, people try to copying the shape and outcome of the object to create text and communicate with each other. Until now, the text had been transform and transform, then appear today's simplified text.

The final arrangement of my installation.

The projector is to connect the computer then projected out the image of the Chinese Calligraphy character. The computer place in front of the pieces of mahjong paper is to detect the movement of the human. While the speaker place at the both side is to play the sound when human play the application. The mahjong paper side will be decorate while the middle part will be empty so that the Chinese Calligraphy character can be seen.

The flow of the installation will be started with the introduction page with some simple description about Chinese Calligraphy. User can move their hand on specific point to skip the introduction. After introduction, there will be the instruction teach user how to play the application then go into the main page which the application can be play. On the specific point, user can move their hand to quit the application as well.

This video showed the movement and drawing of the human make sound out. As i see, this video drawing and the sound doesn't have any relation but it quite similar with my latest idea as maybe we don't know what is the drawing or image about, but based on the background sound, we will understand it.

Here come some video of the water sound. 1st is at the sea side while the second is at water fall river.

 

Water is very important in our life, I plan to make the recorded water video into sound only. As human can hear the sound when playing the installation. When the sound play, player can feel the meaning although they does not know the meaning of the character.

Image and sound are completely separate physical phenomena. Sound wave are vibrations in the air, which is why airless outer space is so silent. Light is the name for the small proportion of the electromagnetic spectrum that is visible to man.

There is only one place in the world where light and sound affect each other mutually in a way that goes well beyond any technology or physics: in human perception. This is where the synaesthesia of sound and vision comes into being. It becomes an artistic experience, a state of audio-visual 1 intoxication and almost religious ecstasy.

Just as many different techniques create moving visual images, so do many different instrumentation create musical sounds. Images (ie. colors, forms, materials, juxtapositions and contrasts, etc.), and sounds (ie. tones, melodies, rhythms, orchestral colors, harmonies and counterpoints) function the same in different media.Sound and music define and interpret the visual image by expressing mood and directing our attention. Sound is emotionally direct, so it is a powerful tool. 

The importance of sound is a greater part of life; which harmony receives soothing voice of gentleness. The success of sound generates entertainment through music. Movement, of self motivation alerts the body, mind and soul to a higher level. The importance of sound in human lives can produce gratitude, heal stress with a stimulation of entertainment for one to be successful at the best.

Listening is a natural essence of life. Which; project focus of good listening skills. Reading, writing are some added languages that help one in the sound field. In the music field. It is vitally important that the human mind produce good focus.

In my concept, I wish that although the user don't know the meaning of the Chinese calligraphy text, yet the sound coming out along will guide them into the meaning of it.

For the first text be use will be Water, 水. The reason I choose this word is because water is important to the earth and its is one of nature's most important gifts to mankind. Essential to life, a person's survival depends on drinking water. The sound of the water is obvious,  yet it might come from water fall, river, water piping, sea and etc. Water is one of the most essential elements to good health -- it is necessary for the digestion and absorption of food; helps maintain proper muscle tone; supplies oxygen and nutrients to the cells; rids the body of wastes; and serves as a natural air conditioning system. Health officials emphasize the importance of drinking at least eight glasses of clean water each and every day to maintain good health.

In this project, I plan to build the installation with the computer and projection on the floor. The software be use will be flash. Lecturer have suggest me for further should be consult with the FYP 2 lecturer for more technique part and software.

There five different style of writing in Chinese Calligraphy. Each style have the unique and the technique to make it more outstanding. The style I choose for the application is Xing Shu. As seen, Li Shu and Kai Shu is the most common style that usually can be found easily while Zhuan Shu is more toward writing old and traditional text which human nowadays hardly understand and Cao Shu usually writing with free style which sometime messy until human can't recognize the text. Xing style is the best choices as it nor normal yet nor complicated like other style.

This will be to projected image on the floor. The surrounding of it still take time to figure out as I still don't have idea what should I apply, either Chinese Calligraphy painting, Chinese Calligraphy poetry, or just leave it blank. User can use the Calligraphy pen to move following the character stroke and sequence. Sound will be play once the user move on the character.

National Art Gallery field study...

Today... All of the course student have request to join the field study trip to National Art Gallery.

As this is our very first trip, I'm quite excited about it.

When we reach, Mr. Kok Yoong have given each of us a Critical Analysis form and request us answer all the question stated based on the artwork in the gallery, and we need to submit it before we back to MMU.

The art gallery have separate into few categories so we can actually choose the artwork we like to answer the question. Here the artwork I choose.

This artist claim that his artwork inquires into the relationship between people and relationship between the people and environment. Here the full explanation.

By the way, the artwork in the gallery are so abstract to me. If there doesn't have any information and artist statement beside it, I totally don't know the meaning of the artwork.

This is a nice trip as some of us might can get some idea about our FYP. ^^
